Biography:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. John Paoli is a consultant dermatologist at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden where he has worked since 2002. He acquired his PhD in 2009 at the University of Gothenburg where he also became an Associate Professor in 2012. His coordinates a research group which focuses on the fields of prevention, early diagnosis and optimal therapy of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. In terms of skin cancer prevention, Dr. Paoli was the National Coordinator for the Swedish Euromelanoma Day screening campaign during 2008-2011. Regarding diagnostics, he is an expert on dermoscopy and was appointed as a Board Member of the International Dermoscopy Society (IDS) in 2010. Today, he is a member of the Executive Board of the IDS and responsible for Social Media. He has also carried out award-winning research on mobile teledermoscopy and recently started to work with confocal microscopy. Within the field of therapeutics, Dr. Paoli is a Mohs micrographic surgeon and the former President of the European Society for Micrographic Surgery. He is also an expert on photodynamic therapy and cryotherapy. Furthermore, Dr. Paoli is the former President of the Swedish Association of Dermatology and Venereology and the former President of the Swedish Association for Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology. He has published over 50 research articles and given over 160 lectures at courses and congresses around the world.
